You Pull Me Back In … Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Game 5

Braden Holt-beast. He’s a beast. He showed that last night, when he decided “hell no. No more. This is my series, I’m pulling us through this series”. He put the team on his back. If the Capitals escape this series it’s because of Holtby and Ovechkin entering Hell No mode.

The Penguins need to play more disciplined if they’re going to win this series. They’re a game away, but if they continue allowing multiple power plays for the Capitals, it’s not going to end as well as they hope. They gave the Capitals five chances and they capitalized twice.

The Capitals had 19 shots in this game, and Murray couldn’t save three of them. To be fair, Ovechkin was on last night. Oshie was on. Backstrom was on. The team scored very quickly when given a chance to, and when that happens its very hard to defend.

The Penguins defense that has won them some games in this series was not there. They couldn’t help Murray, and the Capitals offense ran wild in the first two periods. In the third, Murray became his shut-down self, but the other end of the ice did the same thing after one goal in the first, and that’s the difference. Holtby was on point all game. Murray was on for one period. It’s not enough to beat the Vezina winner when he’s playing like a legitimate Vezina winner.
